Hosting a Student Intern in the ISRP

Create meaningful cross-cultural exchanges by welcoming bright minds from diverse backgrounds to your research as part of UCSC’s renowned International Summer Research Program. Become an intern host today!

The International Summer Research Program (ISRP) provides an opportunity for UCSC faculty to host student interns from international partner universities in research internships during the 8-week UCSC Summer Session which runs from mid-June to late August. The Division of Global Engagement administers the ISRP in collaboration with the hosting faculty and their academic departments at UCSC.

Faculty who are interested in hosting one or more international student interns in person on campus in summer 2025 are encouraged to submit a project description below.

A successful launch for International Summer Research Program

During summer 2021, 19 international undergraduate students participated as virtual interns in the pilot of the International Summer Research Program (ISRP), conducted in collaboration with the Baskin School of Engineering. Read more.

The ISRP is open to students in both undergraduate (bachelor) and graduate (master level, “second cycle”) degree programs at partner universities. UCSC faculty will be contacted with a list of student applicants by mid-February 2025 and given the opportunity to review and select the students.

Faculty in Baskin Engineering and divisions of Physical & Biological Sciences and Social Sciences have given very positive feedback about their experiences hosting students through the ISRP. Many student interns are considering graduate school in the U.S. The ISRP can be a great recruiting tool.

Monday, June 23 to Friday, August 15, 2025

Internships are conducted over the 8-week Summer Session at UCSC. (dates vary each year, see official academic calendar).

The ISRP is a self-funded program. Students may receive funding support from their home institutions. Total Program Costs range from $4,600-$5,800, estimated. For breakdowns, see the ISRP page for students.
