UC Santa Cruz and Kyoto University are finalizing a student exchange program that is expected to launch in fall 2020.

UC Santa Cruz’s burgeoning relationship with Kyoto University began in August 2018, when a UC Santa Cruz delegation led by Chancellor George Blumenthal traveled to Japan to meet with leadership at top universities, including Kyoto University. The meetings provided opportunities for the universities to learn about their respective teaching and research while focusing on opportunities for developing student exchange and deepening faculty collaborations.

As a result of the Blumenthal’s visit, UC Santa Cruz hosted a reciprocal visit and delegation from Kyoto University in March 2019 to further discussions about the student exchange. The delegation met with campus leadership, faculty and Division of Global Engagement staff.
