The Division of Global Engagement and the Graduate Division will hold the third annual Graduate Preparation Program from Aug. 26 through Sep. 18, 2019.
The Graduate Preparation Program is a four-week intensive non-credit course offered prior to fall for all current and newly admitted international graduate students. The program focuses on English for Academic Purposes (EAP), academic skills, and cultural orientation.
“The Graduate Preparation Program provides international graduate students with a strong foundation to the US Classroom environment, the academic system at UCSC, and academic English needed to thrive at the Graduate level,” said International Programs Coordinator Victoria Hudak.
A key piece of the program is the preparation of graduate students for their role as Teaching Assistants. This program ensures that international Teaching Assistants have the language skills and support to succeed in the classroom, which will have an additional positive impact on undergraduate student success.
Throughout the program, students will acquire 75 classroom hours of instruction, including coursework on oral communication, academic writing, reading and research skills and guided study. In addition to coursework, participants will be provided with course materials, on-campus activities, orientation, poster fair with refreshments, and an academic report for each student for their respective academic department.
Temporary housing is available to participants for the duration of the program at The Village. This housing is optional; however, it is an excellent opportunity for students to get acquainted with the Santa Cruz area and look for academic year housing.
Registration for the Graduate Preparation Program will open during spring quarter. Individuals interested in learning more about the program can visit global.ucsc.edu.
