Passport Information

Due to COVID-19, the Department of State is experiencing significant delays in issuing and renewing passports.

If you are a first-time passport applicant or if you meet any of the other outlined criteria, you will need to apply in person at an acceptance facility (clerk of courts, post offices, and libraries). Check with your local acceptance facility to confirm if it is open. If you want to apply at a post office, you will need to make an appointment directly on the USPS.com website.

Check to see if you are eligible to renew your passport by mail, and if you are, please do so as soon as possible.

At this time, only individuals with life-or-death emergencies may apply at a Passport agency or center.

If your passport is currently valid, you’ll need to make sure that it is not expiring within six months of your program end date. Please email us at studyabroad@ucsc.edu to check in if it is expiring within that time frame. If you have already applied for your passport, you can check the status of your passport application here.

Please note this advice was last updated on 8/20/2020. Be sure to check the Department of State’s Passport Operations in Response to COVID-19 website for the latest guidance.
