During the 2019-20 academic year, 10 Banana Slugs will study abroad as part of the new UCSC Global Exchanges. Additionally, five students from exchange partner institutions abroad will study at UC Santa Cruz.
UCSC Global Exchanges are department or campus-based undergraduate study abroad programs that leverage working and research relationships faculty have abroad to promote student mobility between institutions. Students will earn UC credit while paying UC Santa Cruz tuition and fees, and living expenses abroad. For department-based programs, courses taught in English at partner institutions have been identified by faculty to substitute for major and degree requirements at UC Santa Cruz. Exchanges may be for one quarter, two quarters, or an entire academic year.
Last year saw the introduction of the Global Exchange programs with Aarhus University, Technical University of Denmark, Autonomous University of Barcelona (Economics majors only), and University of Sussex (Film and Digital Media and Music majors only).
This year, beginning Fall 2020, new exchanges include Heidelberg University (CSE majors only), ISARA-Lyon, University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Rikkyo University, Sophia University, KAIST (CSE majors only), Korea University, Seoul National University, and Sungkyunkwan University.
The ISARA-Lyon as well as the Heidelberg University exchange programs were both initiated by UC Santa Cruz faculty who had connections to each institution. If students are interested in studying abroad, please contact studyabroad@ucsc.edu or visit studyabroad.ucsc.edu for more information.
