On March 28, 2017, a delegation from the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and the Chinese Embassy in San Francisco visited UC Santa Cruz to sign an agreement with the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics. The agreement provides funding from CSC for Ph.D. students to attend UC Santa Cruz from top institutions in China. The delegation met with the departments of Earth & Planetary Sciences and Ocean Sciences to discuss the future addition of these departments to the agreement and attended a luncheon hosted by the Chancellor’s Office and attended by twenty UC Santa Cruz representatives. Also in attendance was Chancellor Donald Straney from the University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo) for the signing of an agreement between UH Hilo and CSC.
