The Division of Global Engagement is pleased to announce the launch of Global Classrooms, aimed at expanding UC Santa Cruz's global programs into the virtual space.

What are Global Classrooms?

Global Classrooms provide an innovative way for students to gain international experience through virtual technology. They are existing courses, revised by UCSC faculty and their faculty collaborator abroad to incorporate the course design approaches of Virtual Exchange (VE), also known as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). Learn more about the COIL course design model. These Global Classroom courses will increase UCSC students’ access to global learning by providing them with opportunities to engage and collaborate globally with students at international partner institutions, while also creating opportunities for faculty to strengthen ties with colleagues abroad, through joint teaching and course development, in support of future scholarly collaborations and potential graduate student recruitment.

As the imperative to collaborate across borders becomes ever more evident, Global Engagement continues to seek innovative strategies to keep the campus community connected and engaged with our partner institutions, student peers, and colleagues around the world.

Despite disruptions to international travel, study, and research brought on by COVID-19, Global Engagement is steadfast in our mission To inspire and facilitate global learning and research at UC Santa Cruz.
