Study Abroad, within the Division of Global Engagement, welcomes Adam Freed to the role of Study Abroad Coordinator and Advisor. Freed joins the division with experience working for study abroad providers including Athena & CIS Abroad.
While comfortable with general advising across a wide range of global learning programs, Freed especially enjoys advising students who are interested in less traditional programs. “I especially enjoy advising on internships, research programs, and volunteering opportunities,” Freed said.
Coming from the world of study abroad providers where new program development and innovation is critical, Freed says his goal is to, “expand the types of opportunities available to students through virtual programs, international internships, and direct partnerships.”
Freed’s advising style is open and honest, working with students to find the option that is right for them even if it isn’t the obvious choice.
“Working in education abroad keeps things exciting. There are few days where I know exactly what to expect. I love to read, research, and write about education abroad; something that I feel will be renewed now that I’m here at UCSC,” Freed said.
Freed obtained his BA in Global Studies and Intercultural Communication from Spring Arbor University and his MA in International Education from The School for International Training (SIT Graduate Institute). He completed studies abroad in India and Jordan, and has led programs abroad and domestically for undergraduates.
