Facts & Figures: Study Abroad

Nearly 600 University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) students study abroad each year through the University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP), University of California campus sponsored programs, and independent non-UC study abroad programs.

The 2015-2016 academic year (Summer 2015 to Spring 2016) showed that there is a study abroad opportunity for all. 81% of Study Abroad participants recieving financial aid, and 12% were transfer students. 

The top majors for Study abroad participants in 2015-2016 were:

  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Economics
  • Politics
  • Environmental Studies
  • Film & Digital Media
  • Anthropology
  • History
  • Art

The most common destination for students participating in UCEAP in 2015-2016 was Europe (currently, there are UCEAP programs in 13 European countries).

Although majority of UCSC students studied abroad on fall term programs (53% in 2015-2016), UCSC still sent a significant portion of students on year-long programs, ranking highly in the most recent IIE Open Doors 2013-14 Report.
