Exchange and Visiting Student Program

This Program provides a non-degree study abroad opportunity for "Exchange" (reciprocal tuition waiver) and "Visiting" (fee-paying) students at the beautiful UC Santa Cruz campus. Student mobility partnerships have been established by the Division of Global Engagement with several universities throughout Asia and Europe and our portfolio is expanding every year. UC Santa Cruz also sends out well over 500 students annually to study abroad at partner and non-partner universities around the world.

All students who are currently enrolled in a degree-granting course of study at a partner institution abroad are eligible to apply for this Program. Students may come from a range of different academic fields and may study at UC Santa Cruz for one quarter up to a full academic year (3 quarters). Study in the Summer Session (June through August) is also possible on a tuition basis (See "Summer Session"). All students participating in this Program receive an official UC Santa Cruz transcript of courses upon successful completion of their period of study.

Why UC Santa Cruz?

One of the most beautiful campuses in the University of California system, UC Santa Cruz is surrounded by redwoods on a hillside offering panoramic views of the Monterey Bay, yet located only minutes from beaches and surfing, the lively boardwalk, and the arts and culture of downtown Santa Cruz. The UC Santa Cruz tradition of creative thinking and innovation fuels both a vibrant arts community, and the renowned high-technology industry of the nearby Silicon Valley. As a public university like no other in California, UC Santa Cruz combines the intimacy of a small, liberal arts college setting and distinctive undergraduate experience characterized by our residential college system, with the facilities and resources of a world-class research university. Known as a major research center for marine and coastal sciences, astronomy & astrophysics, and genomics, to name just a few, UC Santa Cruz recently ranked 3rd in the world for research influence (tied with Stanford University) by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
