UC Santa Cruz Faculty-Led Summer Study Abroad programs offer students an international experience with
In the summer of 2018, 24 students participated in the Faculty-Led Study Abroad programs in Perugia, Italy and Tokyo, Japan. In Japan, led by Professor Jimin Lee, these students learned about Japanese woodblock printing, Moku Hanga, and participated in cultural excursions including trips to local museums, and a hands-on workshop at a traditional paper mill.
In Italy, Professor Lissa Caldwell held a food study field study that enabled students to take one topical and one methodological course while abroad. Students received rigorous training in the key theoretical debates and ethnographic studies in the anthropology of food while accumulating hands-on experience by learning and practicing ethnographic research methods.
