Michael Price, Global Travel and Security Manager

This is a new position for UCSC, funded through the divisional resource call, that will provide campus-wide support to identify and mitigate health, safety, and security risks related to international travel for students, faculty, and staff. Michael will work collaboratively with campus stakeholders, such as the Office of Risk Services, to provide international traveler support and risk assessment to the broader campus community.

He aims to create a proactive risk management environment that prepares people for going abroad by anticipating potential risks specific to location and activity type, and supporting travelers through developing crisis management plans, faculty briefings, and expanded educational resources for students.

Prior to his role at UCSC, Michael was the Health, Safety, and Risk Manager at the University of Oregon, a position he held since 2018. His experience also includes the University College Utrecht in Utrecht, the Netherlands, as the Student Life Officer. It was there that he had oversight of campus student and residential life, first experiencing student emergency and crisis response.

Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Oregon, specializing in archaeology. Later, he studied at the Reinwardt Academy of the Amsterdam High School of the Arts, where he earned Master’s certifications in Museum Education and Museum Collections Management.
