Global Engagement Stories
In March 2017 UCSC hosted a visit by the Consul General of Mexico in San Jose, Mauricio Toussaint and the Consul of Community Affairs, Culture & Education, Loren Cruz Sandoval. The delegation toured the campus, met with students from Mexico, attended a luncheon hosted by the Chancellor, visited a lab and toured the Seymour Discovery Center. The purpose of the visit was to raise awareness of UCSC with the Mexican government and to learn of initiatives in Mexico that could provide opportunities for engagement in Mexico by faculty and students of UCSC.

In October 2016 UCSC hosted a visit by the Consul General of Brazil in San Francisco, Pedro Lopez Borio. Senior Economist Márcio V. Vecci accompanied the Consul General on the visit. The delegation toured the campus, met with students from Brazil, visited several research laboratories and faculty and toured the Seymour Discovery Center. The purpose of the visit was to raise awareness of UCSC with the Brazilian government and to learn of potential initiatives in Brazil regarding opportunities in higher education.

In May 2016 a delegation from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom visited University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) to sign an international agreement. The delegation included Vice Chancellor Michael Farthing, Steve McGuire, Dean of the Management School, Marcus Williams, Director of International Affairs, and Peter Boddy, International Partnership Offficer. The delegation toured the campus, met with faculty and attended a luncheon hosted by the Chancellor.

In October 2015 Chancellor Blumenthal led a UCSC delegation on a trip to China. They met with U.S. Ambassador Max Baucus, representatives of the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Scholarship Council, and attended two receptions with alumni and parents of current students. The delegation also visited several high schools and about 10 universities in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hongju. The trip was organized around building relationships to foster study and research opportunities for students and faculty at UCSC.
